Glascow Trails is an amazing place to live, just ask those who live there! During our time on the ground in this , there was much to be celebrated, in spite of the weather at times! Rain, rain and more rain and then ice and then the inevitable downed trees, loss of power and all that goes with that. While the weather may have set the team back a bit in getting started, this proved to be a wonderful place to join with and be a part of, if even for a short time.
We ended up with over 20 employees coming out to help, add to this over 20 volunteers and finally 12 residents who came out to help on Project day all working toward one goal, to encourage, improve and bless this community! Everything came together for a fantastic day. We ended up with over 30 homes helped and over 70 improvements being made to these home which is quite a feat. Add to that serving over 200 people dinner and you can quickly get the picture, Glascow Trails was a delight!
‘Life is hard,’ commented one of the Impact Cares team members after meeting some of the folks in this community. How true that is, and the team run across folks whose challenges and situations prove that is so true. We ran across the elderly, the single moms and the disabled, all doing their best to make a go of life. Even with the challenges that life can throw at us, these folks were an encouragement to the Impact Cares team. For instance, we were not able to formally hold Camp Impact this time due to a number of reasons, yet the kids were engaged in some crafts and we gave out ‘signed’ soccer balls – with their own names on them – which they loved! One of the crafts involved making some butterflies and caterpillars which naturally led to discussions about transformation and new life – which can be theirs in Christ alone. What a great way to share the Good News!
It is not uncommon today to pick up a new book, open the cover and find several pages of ‘endorsements’ by those who have read the book. Well, here are a few ‘endorsements’ from those who were blessed and helped during our time there.
From ‘KC,’ whose home needed some help. “I just want to express my sincere thanks to you and all of this team for everything you have done for me. You have literally given me a new lease on life by giving my home a new lease on life. Y’all are some of the most Christian, caring and hardworking people I’ve ever known. (Being older), trying to survive on SS and seeing my home, which is all I have, literally falling apart it’s been pretty depressing and had me feeling pretty hopeless. I thank God for each of you and for the people who put this group together. I love your heart for thinking and helping people like me. My home actually had holes in it. Y’all patched it up, painted it a beautiful blue & added brand new skirting till it looks like a brand new home & I feel like it is! . . This has truly been a once in a lifetime blessing for me. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.”
This one from ‘RW,’ who Impact Cares was also able to help. “I really appreciate from the bottom of my heart what you and your team have done for me and my family. These words are not enough to express how grateful I truly am. . . . We serve a magnificent, outstanding, glorious God, who brings his children together to do his work. You and your family team are truly answering the word of God. Thank you! She also said, "I'll probably drive by it the next time I come home from the store because I won't recognize it."
One more from one of the youngest participants of the day, a 6-year-old, “This is the best day ever!”
