Westlake

The Westlake project in Grand Junction, Colorado, was a truly rewarding experience. It was a privilege to work alongside residents, volunteers from local churches, and employees from across the country, including Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, and various parts of Colorado.

The morning started chilly, but the sun soon warmed the day. We were thrilled to have Diana join us. Her ability to connect with Spanish-speaking residents was invaluable, as many in the community spoke limited English. Nick, with his Spanish language skills, also proved to be a valuable asset to the team.

One of the most inspiring residents was Susy. Despite living with some real physical challenges and requiring a wheelchair, Susy maintains an incredible positive spirit. We were able to modify her home to include a more accessible bathroom, significantly improving her quality of life.

Two other residents, are beloved by the entire community. Known for their generosity and kindness, they consistently go above and beyond to help their neighbors. Despite facing health challenges, she remained active throughout the project, even cooking for the team. Their unwavering spirit was truly inspiring. It is amazing how one or two people with this ‘can-do’ attitude can significantly impact those around them.

The Westlake community, though small, faces unique challenges. A recent hailstorm caused significant damage to many homes, particularly to the skirting. Our team was able to effectively address this issue, thanks to the valuable training provided by Tory.

Working with the residents of Westlake was an incredibly rewarding experience. Their resilience, kindness, and unwavering community spirit left a lasting impact on our team. We are grateful for the opportunity to have served this amazing community. The Impact Cares team was impacted in deep ways by this community.

As you travel to the western edge of Colorado, you will come to a great place called ‘Grand Junction.’ It is a place where two rives join but more importantly, a place where people join together to serve one another. This was our final project for the year. As we look forward to the coming year, we encourage you take a look at our upcoming projects. We look forward to serving many communities across this great land in 2025. As you check out our Impact Cares projects for 2025, won’t you consider joining with us and being a blessing to others?

May you have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
